Show Your Books

This alphabet soup spells great opportunity for NMBA members: N M C L ... A L A ... I N A T S
NMBA wants to help you promote your books through our members' showcase catalogs and by collaborating with our members and other local and national organizations to create a presence at tradeshows and conferences. To NMBA members attending the INATS and ALA shows, NMBA will contribute communications and coordination assistance, some materials, as well as the NMBA name and the expertise of board members who have attended shows in the past. We are currently working to create book catalogs to showcase members' books. Dates and contact information for each opportunity are listed in the sidebar. More complete, updated details are given here below:

NMCL
The New Mexico Book Association will provide catalogs to be distributed at the New Mexico Coalition for Literacy's 23rd Annual Meeting & Conference on June 17, in Las Cruces.  Authors who would like to be included in the catalog for this event are requested to mail or bring 50 copies of their sell sheets to the NMBA offices by May 15, along with a check for $10. NMCL is also looking for donations for door prizes. Please contact Mary, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , if you wish to contribute.

INATS-West
Revised information on INATS: NMBA will have a booth this year at the International New Age Trade Show in Denver, June 25-27. Arielle Guttman is coordinating the effort to enlist members' presence and/or books for this show. The show's deadlines are quickly approaching. Please contact her at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 505-984-8330. To participate we need:

  • By May 7: commitment and check. The cost is $95 to submit a book title, $30 for each additional title.
  • By June 10: books, sell sheets, and literature.
ALA
Devon and Susan of Red Mountain Press are partnering with NMBA to bring your books to the American Library Association conference in New Orleans, June 23-28. The response has been strong for this show; we'll do our best to take as many books as we can. Please reply as soon as possible if you wish to participate. Here are Red Mountain’s guidelines for participation:

1. The book must be professionally printed and bound. No galleys, no stapled editions. (Those are ALA's requirements.)
2. For NMBA members, submit two copies of each title OR send a package including your books, sell sheet (100), order form, postcards, or bookmarks (100) for a flat fee (see below). There will be no extras and no surprises.
3. Originally we thought there might be 4 or 5 titles besides our own and so made the package price $245 to include display of materials, transportation, set-up, cartage, clean-up, etc. As there seem to be a great many more people interested, we can reduce that price. There also will be a discount for multiple titles from a single publisher.
4. Each book will be featured for part of the time.  We will rotate the display so that everyone has an opportunity to be in the spotlight.
5. Several titles are already committed and there is a finite number of titles that can be displayed in a 10 x 10 booth.
6. We are interested in forming a co-op group to go to ALA, Mountains and Plains in  Denver in September, possibly Dallas in January, and other important trade fairs.  You do NOT have to commit to that group to go to ALA this time.
